It says a lot for Manchester City as a club that their best ever European performance and second place in the Premier League is considered something of a down year, but expectations surrounding Manuel Pellegrini’s side have grown to such an extent that anything less than the best is a disappointment. Set for another assault on the Premier League in 2015/16, Manchester City’s pieces are in place to compete from the first game and with the team’s extensive infamous transfer negotiators out there scouring the world for the perfect compliments to Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, Joe Hart and Yaya Toure, you’d be foolish to bet against them.

Marking the forthcoming campaign, Nike have unveiled the club’s 2015/16 home kit, which has been inspired by Manchester City designs of the past, blends timeless colours and detailing with the brand’s performance innovation to unite City’s storied past and exciting future with distinctive and sophisticated Mancunian style.

It’s hard to go wrong with a Manchester City shirt and with Nike matching the club’s iconic sky blue with a contemporary, slim white polo neck collar finished with concealed buttons beneath the placket. That polo neck collar serves as a strong visual reference to the city’s history with casual wear. A white stripe runs down each flank, which continues in light blue down the sides of the traditional pure white shorts. The new home socks are light blue with a white band at the top, and feature a tonal performance stripe of small chevrons on the back of the calf.

To help with the launch of the new kit, Manchester City worked with the club’s fans, with the Nike Football App calling out supporters to be given an exclusive invite to attend the City Football Academy and be the first to see the new design and hear about the insights that went into the creation of the kit.

The Manchester City 2015/16 Home Kit will be available 10 July through
