With Arsenal unveiling the club’s brand new home strip at The Emirates in a huge affair last night, JD Football managed to sit down with their exciting young right-back Hector Bellerin to discuss Alexis Sanchez, Rivaldo, being powered by the fans and more.

Breaking into the Arsenal first team following a slew of injuries to defenders at the tail end of 2014, former Barcelona prospect Bellerin went from a Championship loan to regular Champions League football and a place in the club’s FA Cup team inside a year. Fully at home as a fan favourite, the right-back feels PUMA’s ‘Powered By Fans’ message is perfect for the new kit, “The fan’s support is one of the most important things once you’re at a team and I think this year at The Emirates has been great for us.” The Spanish Under 21 international continued, “For a young player, you kind of need that. For me being in that big stadium, always sold-out with the great fans, that made it easier for me and I’m really happy that we could pay them back with the FA Cup at the end of the season.”

Along with his own rise to prominence, one of the high points in Arsenal’s season has been the form of new signing Alexis Sanchez, something Bellerin fully endorses, “He adds a lot to the team both on the pitch and off the pitch. He has a completely different mentality, he wants to train all the time. His mentality is great for the team, it’s inspiring especially for the younger players.” Taking inspiration from the Chilean, Hector is enjoying playing with such an incredible line-up of stars, “It is seriously amazing for me to play alongside players like him and layers like Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla.”

Fast, creative and powerful, Hector Bellerin is a new breed of full-back, which might be explained by his choice of idols as a youngster, “When I was younger I was a winger, so I was always looking at forwards. I remember being 15 years old and looking at Cristiano Ronaldo when he was at Manchester United or even Thierry Henry [when] he used to play on the wing at Barcelona.” Going a bit further back though it was another pair of local legends who caught his eye, “When I was a bit younger it was probably Rivaldo and Ronaldinho at Barcelona.”

Speaking at the PUMA launch of the new kit, Hector Bellerin told us what his thoughts on the 2015/16 look, “I really like it. The fit is kind of similar to last season, the tight fit which we find really comfortable. I’m really looking forward to playing in it.”
