Making his return to Arsenal’s first team for the first time in 10 months this weekend, Theo Walcott appeared from the bench against Burnley in a brand new boot, the Nike Mercurial Superfly. The archetypal Mercurial player, Theo shared his thoughts on wearing the revolutionary boots exclusively to JD Football.

With a section of Mercurial players choosing to remain in the low-top Vapor X, it wasn’t a given that Walcott would be lacing up in the Superfly, but speaking ahead of his return, the former Southampton man was excited about the prospect of wearing the boots, “They’re something new that nobody has tried before and it’s definitely shocked people but shocked them in a good way.”

“They’re very comfortable and they’ll stand out and you want your boots to stand out. You want the kids to notice them and of course it’s all about the comfort, the way you play and the way you feel, and if you feel good on the football pitch, things are going to happen for you.”

The Mercurial Superfly made a massive impact at the World Cup in the summer and has continued to shine this season, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Alexis Sanchez and Raheem Sterling all opting for the Flyknit supported boots and Theo thinks he knows why, “I know there was a lot of player input into these boots and I think that’s had a huge impact. Nike took that and developed it as a team and I think that’s what you want, not just the people in the background who develop the boot but the players have been made to feel part of it, which is very exciting for us.”

With Mercurial currently the top scoring boot in the Premier League, Walcott is excited about what can be achieved in the boots, “You can’t just have the same boring boot, you always need something new and for the boot to evolve. You need to try things that have never been done before and I think the Superfly is exactly that.”
