Signing the season off as Champions League winners is generally a good way to measure success. Combined with a 3rd place finish in La Liga, Carlo Ancelotti and Gareth Bale can be very pleased with their first seasons work. Bale finished the season with 15 goals, including the decisive 2nd goal in the Champions League Final, whilst Cristiano Ronaldo was his usual prolific self throughout. Two unsung stars of Madrid’s season were midfielders Luka Modric and Angel di Maria, who both had fine campaigns backing up the other superstars.

What do they need?

Madrid seem to have most bases covered at the moment, with quality all over the pitch – it won’t stop them spending this summer though. It seems chairman Florentino Pérez wants to welcome a new striker, and Premier League superstars Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez are top of his most wanted list. This would probably mean Karim Benzema will be leaving the Bernabeu, with Arsenal a likely destination.
